We are at Week 17

Just a quick update: At week 17 Baby Abelson is now about the size of an onion, at 5 inches in length and weighing 5 ounces. Baby can now move it's limbs, although I cannot feel anything. The bones are becoming more like bone at this point, and less like cartilage, but never turn fully to bone until after birth.

Existing structures become more developed this week and onward. As the body straightens, the kidneys move into place. The heart circulates blood while the
placenta carries out respiration, digestion, and waste removal. After birth, these duties will be performed by the lungs, digestive system, and kidneys.

As the baby gets bigger and stronger I will start to feel little movements, "bubbly or butterfly" feelings called "Quickening". These are the beginning feelings of baby's movements. These begin anytime around the 18th week. More on that later!
