BIG NEWS...
On 9-12-09 we brought out 2 children's potty books that we purchased a while ago, just to start making the potty a FUN idea. Madilyn has been very interested when we go and also tells us before making a BM, which made us think she had a deep curiousity and deepening knowledge of her body.
We wanted her to lead the way, we wanted her to own her potty experience, so we were only going to give her the opportunity to sit on the potty if she initiated it and wanted to.
At one point in one of the potty books there is a large drawing of a potty, when she saw this page Madilyn took off her pants and sat on the picture of the potty. We were laughing so hard at this point!!! She then said "off" while pulling at her diaper.
At this point we decided we should take out the kid potty we bought for Madi a while ago. She sat on it with no hesitation AND went potty!!!!!!! She didn't want to get off. We practiced wiping, closing the seat and then washing hands. She didn't want to put her diaper!!!!
This morning she has wanted to go on again, and while she is on the potty we read her books about Elmo and other characters who also use the potty.
So far she has made BMs and pees on the potty.
We know most children may have issues going on the potty at first, she LOVES to be on it!!!
Madi does not like to put her diapers on after, so we bought pull ups because they look more like underwear. However, we decided that we will get her big girl underwear because then she can really feel when she went, she will be able to tell when she is wet and knowing Madi, she won't want to be wet.
In other news...
Madi kisses with the kiss sound now
Madi is remembering on her own to do the things we had told her to do over and over again...
She has many new words and is stringing ideas together, such as "my potty", covering tiger with blanket, taking off blanket and saying "Wake up", she has also been using more imaginary play, changing her animals "diapers", wiping them, cleaning them, etc...
More later,
The Abelsons
